2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz Pays Tribute to Its Iconic Type 2 Microbus

Volkswagen's embraces the new year with its latest electric vehicle (EV). This newest offering is called the ID. Buzz, and its design commemorates the legendary Type 2 Microbus, also referred to as the VW Bus. The new van's vintage style is clearly inspired by this. Apart from its classic exterior, the ID's inside. Buzz has an expansive cabin with three rows of flexible seating.

Volkswagen has revealed that the ID. Buzz is set to make its debut at U.S. dealerships in 2024, though it is currently available for purchase in Europe. Reports stated that while the specific trims and configurations for the American market have not been disclosed yet, Volkswagen has confirmed that the U.S. version of the van will offer either six or seven seats, spread across three rows of seating.

In terms of dimensions, it will have similar length and width as the VW Atlas Cross Sport, featuring a longer wheelbase measuring 127.5 inches. This design has been tailored specifically to cater to the North American market.

In contrast, the ID. Buzz currently available in Europe has a shorter 117.6-inch wheelbase and a maximum seating capacity of five, highlighting that American consumers will receive an extended version to accommodate the additional third-row seating.

The evocative retro style of the ID.Buzz is reportedly inspired by the classic VW Bus. When one looks inside, they will see a spacious cabin with three rows of adaptable seating. Resources stated that a single charge should let it to go approximately 260 miles, and it will be offered in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

The van can recharge its battery from 10 to 80 percent in under 30 minutes when utilizing a DC fast-charger. Furthermore, VW intends to launch plug-and-charge technology, which will streamline the charging procedure by doing away with the requirement for apps or credit cards to be used at charging stations.

Moreover, driver technology takes center stage in the ID. Buzz, featuring a 5.3-inch digital gauge cluster and a 12.9-inch infotainment screen. Volkswagen assures that this infotainment system will run the latest software version, expected to offer greater user-friendliness compared to previous iterations.

The van comes with standard wireless charging capabilities, along with a 110-volt outlet and eight USB-C ports conveniently placed throughout the vehicle. For a seamless connection to the external environment, there is a 68-inch-long panoramic glass sunroof with electronically adjustable tinting, operable with a single touch.

Additionally, the ID. Buzz incorporates ID. Light, an LED light-strip driver communication system by Volkswagen. It utilizes light pulses to convey information such as turn signals, incoming phone calls, and various vehicle status updates, and it comes as a standard feature.

Pricing remains undisclosed. But industry experts predict that the starting price of the 2025 Volkswagen ID.Buzz will be approximately $40,000.

On January 17, 1949, the first two Volkswagen Type 1 vehicles. arrived in New York. According to reports,they were popularly known as Beetles. The next year, Max Hoffman, a prominent person in 1950s sports car circles, was importing several hundred Volkswagens a year.

Then, in 1955 upon the official founding of the Volkswagen Company of America in its product lineup included the iconic Type 2, or Volkswagen bus. This bus serves as the inspiration for the modern all-electric ID.Buzz model.
