Owners of Honda Accord cars that have CarPlay installed will have the wonderful chance to upgrade to a wireless Apple CarPlay system in 2024. However, the specifics of this upgrade's cost are still unknown at this moment.

Wireless Apple CarPlay in Select Honda Accords

Honda has taken a proactive approach by planning to introduce a retrofit option specifically tailored for older model-year Accords, granting them access to the convenience of wireless Apple CarPlay. This retrofit process is slated to commence later in the current month and will necessitate a visit to an authorized Honda dealership for implementation, as per the information provided by Honda.

The news of this promising upgrade was brought to light during a media briefing, where Autoblog covered various aspects, including the introduction of new models. The company officially confirmed its intention to offer this retrofit for 2018 through 2022 Accord models. To facilitate the scheduling of this service at a dealer, Honda owners will soon have access to a dedicated web portal, expected to be operational by the conclusion of January.

Although Honda initiated the integration of CarPlay into the Accord as far back as 2016, the addition of wireless connectivity is a relatively recent enhancement. Interestingly, the vehicle's existing hardware is fully capable, requiring solely a software update to enable this sought-after feature. However, due to the absence of a mobile data connection, the execution of this update must be undertaken by a qualified Honda technician.

Reports stated that the 2018 to 2022 Select Honda Accords qualify for the wireless Apple CarPlay upgrade. Honda has not disclosed whether it intends to implement comparable upgrades for its other vehicle models.

About Honda Accord

Automakers have previously extended newer infotainment features to older vehicles, showcasing a precedent for such initiatives. For instance, Mazda introduced the availability of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto in 2018 for earlier model-year vehicles equipped with compatible infotainment systems.

However, it's worth noting that this particular upgrade from Mazda exclusively supported wired connections, distinguishing it from the wireless enhancement offered by Honda.

As shared by Car and Driver, the 2022 Honda Accord in terms of its high points, the vehicle boasts a lithe chassis, providing a responsive and agile driving experience. Its perky acceleration further enhances the overall performance, delivering a satisfying level of power. Additionally, the car's entertainment system is accessible and easy for both the driver and the passengers to operate thanks to its straightforward design.

There are several drawbacks. While the internal storage options are adequate, some users might want additional space for storing their belongings. The high-end and entry-level cars' cabin noise levels also differ noticeably from one another, with the former being noisier than the latter.

The rear pillars' tendency to generate blind spots presents another difficulty, necessitating extra caution when changing lanes and making other moves.
