It has come to light that the clips responsible for securing the trim around the roof supports near the windshield may become dislodged. If this occurs, there is a heightened risk of the trim piece detaching and potentially becoming airborne while in traffic, significantly increasing the risk of an accident.
This recall action has been prompted by a previous investigation initiated by U.S. regulators back in January. 164 client complaints initiated this investigation. Canadian authorities were also alarmed on the circumstances.

How Ford Responded
Ford initially hesitated to issue a recall for the trim piece issue, citing the part's low weight. However, they reversed their decision after U.S. regulators determined it posed a safety hazard. Ford anticipates that only 5% of the recalled Explorers will be affected and advises owners to contact dealers for inspections once parts are available.
While 568 consumer complaints and over 14,000 warranty reports mentioned missing or detached parts, Ford has no records of crashes or injuries related to this problem. Dealers will inspect and secure the trim pieces with adhesive, with notifications to owners starting on March 13. CBS News provided updates regarding this latest development.
