Honda Unleashes Its Most Expensive EV Ever: 2024 Honda Prologue

This year, Honda introduced the 2024 Prologue SUV, marking their second attempt into the electric vehicle (EV) market following the less successful Clarity sedan. The Honda Prologue, the latest offering from Honda's EV lineup, is its first mass-market electric car aimed at American consumers.

As the spring launch draws near,Honda released additional details about the Prologue, highlighting it as an all-electric SUV in the United States .

Most Expensive EV Ever from Honda: Prologue

Honda's price range for the Prologue places it at the higher end of the market, especially as it enters the market, with the most affordable Prologue EX, a two-wheel-drive variant, starting at $48,795. In comparison, competing electric vehicles like the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6 are available at lower price points, with prices ranging from $42,985 to $43,975.

MotorTrend compared the Prologue's pricing with other car brands. Similarly, the Toyota bZ4X and Subaru Solterra twins come in at $48,675 and $46,220, respectively. Other options, such as the Volkswagen ID4 ($40,290), Nissan Ariya ($44,555), Mustang Mach-E ($45,295), and Tesla Model Y ($45,380), also offer more budget-friendly pricing for their base-model, two-wheel-drive versions. MotorTrend provided details about 2024 Honda Prologue pricing.

The price of 2024 Honda Prologue goes up to $59, 295 with the Elite AWD trim. Car and Driver shared the list of trim and corresponding prices for 2024 Honda Prologue. The price list shows that this car is indeed the most expensive EV ever from Honda.

Reports shared that this latest offering from Honda is available in five different trim levels. Thus, providing choices between single-motor front-wheel-drive and dual-motor all-wheel-drive configurations.

Every 2024 Honda Prologue trim is propelled by an 85kWh Lithium-ion 'Ultium' battery pack sourced from General Motors. Additionally, the SUV is equipped with a proficient multi-link suspension system at all four corners, ensuring a smooth and capable ride.

To cater to the diverse charging needs of buyers, Honda has designed three distinct charging benefit packages that will be available upon delivery. These packages encompass various amounts of specifically tailored for use at EVgo and Electrify America charging stations.

Another good news is - buyers will have the flexibility to choose between different charging kits or opt for credits that can be applied toward the installation of a home charging station. Deliveries for this most expensive EV ever from Honda is expected to begin in March.

As cited in reports, according to the EPA, the Prologue models that achieve the highest efficiency ratings are the front-wheel drive configurations of the EX and Touring trims, both of which have received city ratings of up to 107 MPGe.

More Features, Specs from Prologue

Reports also highlighted the 2024 Honda Prologue's eligibility for the $7,500 Federal EV tax credit remains uncertain. While the Blazer EV is currently not qualified, it is expected to regain eligibility in the near future. Whether the Prologue qualifies for this credit hinges on factors like the sourcing of Honda's batteries and parts, which could potentially align with Chevrolet's locations.

However, Honda has not confirmed that the SUV meets the current criteria for this tax credit. The Prologue is offered in three versions: the base-level EX, the mid-level Touring, and the top-tier Elite.

The EX and Touring models provide a choice between two-wheel drive (front-drive) featuring a single 212-hp, 236-lb-ft electric motor or all-wheel drive, which includes a second motor at the rear, boosting the total output to 288 hp and 333 lb-ft of torque for an additional $3,000. The Prologue Elite comes standard with all-wheel drive.

Standard features across the Prologue lineup include 19-inch wheels, heated front seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a 10-way power driver's seat, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, Google Built-In, and SiriusXM satellite radio.

The Touring trim enhances the offering with leather seating, front and rear parking sensors, and a 12-speaker Bose audio system. In Elite versions, there are added amenities like a head-up display, ventilated front seats, and 21-inch wheels.

Honda Deliveries, Partnership with GM

In partnership with General Motors, the automaker has worked together to create a shared EV platform, with the first model anticipated to be unveiled in 2027. Additionally, Honda utilized "immersive" virtual reality technology in the design of their all-electric SUVs.
