Software Trouble Hinders Volvo EX30 Deliveries; Marking Second Time Delay for Volvo Launch History

Volvo has encountered delivery delays for the EX30 due to software trouble with the full-electric small SUV. This problem is the second time that software-related issues have affected Volvo EVs; the first occurred with the EX90.
Software Glitch: Volvo EX30 Deliveries Delayed
Volvo acknowledged the problem with EX30 concerning the software trouble with the full-electric small SUV. Nonetheless, the company through a correspondence, reassured clients that the business is doing everything in its power to find a solution. As shared in Automotive News report, the automaker stated that while significant progress has been achieved, software version 1.2 still needs to meet a few standards before it can be released.
In response to inquiries regarding the delay, a Volvo spokesperson explained via email that a limited number of customers have experienced slight delays in their vehicle deliveries while Volvo addresses minor details. However, these issues have been resolved, and Volvo is now poised to swiftly increase EX30 deliveries.
The report also stated its source emphasized that the software update cannot be executed remotely but must take place at the dealership. This was another software issue for Volvo that results to launching delay.
Last year the brand also halted the production of EX90. As reported in The Truth About Cars website, Volvo postponed the release of the EX90 until the middle of 2024 to address software-related concerns in the LiDAR system. Furthermore, as stated in the same report, engineers encountered greater difficulties than anticipated when they integrated the software into the SPA2 EV platform architecture.

Volvo CEO Jim Rowan mentioned that the delay might have extended to five or six months due to the intricacies of the software code. Additionally, the reported cited Automotive News' statement that, Volvo is not the sole automaker facing challenges in the realm of technology. Volkswagen, in particular, had encountered significant hurdles in orchestrating the release of its software, resulting in a delay for the Porsche Macan EV.
Sneak Peak: Volvo EX30
EX30 was originally built in Volvo's site in Zhangjiakou, China. Reports shared that Volvo revealed its plans of building its all electric EX30 in Europe. This is move is to keep up with the growing demand for this vehicle.
Last year, Volvo announced that it would start building EX30 at its plant in Ghent, Belgium from 2025. This move is in addition to the production already happening at that time in China. Furthermore, Volvo expressed its confidence stating that EX30 will swiftly become one of its best-selling models.
According to Electrek, the company's head affirmed that there is robust demand for the electric C40 and the recently introduced EX30, even within the United States. Volvo's latest EX30, which begins at a price point below $35,000 stands as one of the most budget-friendly electric vehicles currently available. Furthermore, it represents Volvo's most economical and fastest offering to date.
There will be two versions of the electric SUV: a twin-motor performance type and a single-motor extended range one. Meanwhile a review on EX30 shared that its streamlined design proves to be a success. Cost reductions have been implemented intelligently. Lastly, Google's user interface continues to outperform rivals. It offers an enjoyable driving experience.
