The recently revamped Prius claims the 2024 Car of the Year title from MotorTrend, described as breaking norms with its exceptional aesthetics, superior driving experience, heightened power, and unprecedented efficiency. Meanwhile, in the assessment of "Best Plug-In Hybrid Cars" by Edmunds, the 2024 Prius Prime earns a commendable 8.1 rating.

Forbes revealed that this year Toyota aims to capitalize on the overall slowdown in the production of fully electric vehicles (EVs) across the industry by seeking a greater market share for plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs).

The 2024 Toyota Prius Prime, for instance, starts at approximately $34,000 and extends up to around $40,000. In comparison, the 2024 Tesla Model 3 has a starting price of about $39,000 in the U.S., reaching up to approximately $47,000.

A Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicle (PHEV) such as the Prius Prime proves to be a practical choice as it enables electric driving for short distances and seamlessly transitions to a gas-powered engine for longer journeys. The enhanced energy density of the 2024 Prius Prime's batteries allows for an electric range of up to 44 miles. When coupled with the gas engine, the vehicle achieves a total range exceeding 550 miles.

As per Car and Driver, Toyota surprised everyone when they unveiled the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid and the standard Prius at the beginning of the 2023 model year. The entirely new design of the Prius turned it from one of the most awkward-looking cars on the market into a certified attention-grabber.

Beyond just a cosmetic overhaul, the Prius Prime plug-in hybrid (PHEV) received a significantly enhanced powertrain. In 2024, both the Prius Prime and the regular model have earned a spot on Car and Driver's 10Best Cars list.
