Mercedes-Benz Targets New Face, Latest Language Design

As per Autoblog, Mercedes-Benz is making big changes to its electric cars. In the future, they'll have a less streamlined design to attract a wider range of customers. Some will also drop the EQ prefix in their names.

In discussions with Top Gear, Christoph Starzynski, the vice president of engineering at Mercedes-Benz, acknowledged that the design of models like the EQE and EQS may have contributed to sales falling short of executive expectations.

Responding to queries about whether the distinctive appearance, chosen for its contribution to a low drag coefficient, might be too polarizing for the target audience, Starzynski stated they have received that comment, and it is being taken seriously.

As stated in the report, this reflects Mercedes-Benz's adoption of a new design language, where they are reconsidering the trade-off between aerodynamics and customer preferences.

Starzynski emphasized that the feedback they have received will be instrumental in shaping the design of upcoming electric vehicles (EVs). He cited the Concept CLA unveiled in 2023 as an example, explaining, examining the [design] language in the Concept CLA, and potentially considering the future, there are clear indications of adjustments to be made.

Moreover, the Concept CLA showcases more conventional-looking proportions in contrast to the current EQ-branded models.

Although the Concept CLA serves as a distinct glimpse into the forthcoming third-generation CLA, the final production model might not bear a name similar to EQCLA. Starzynski highlighted that while the EQ label will continue to be used for some time, not every vehicle in the lineup will necessarily adopt it.

The Concept CLA, its impact on the Mercedes-Benz lineup goes beyond design. It will be built on a fresh modular platform known as MMA, and the electric drivetrain will incorporate insights gained from the development and testing of the Vision EQXX concept.

2025 Mercedes-Benz EQG EV

According to PS Power Speeds, the design concept for the 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQG EV marks a transformation from its previous identity as a highly capable off-roader to now being positioned as one of the most luxurious SUVs available. The upcoming 2025 Mercedes-Benz EQG, featuring an all-electric drivetrain, is nearing readiness for market release.

In simple terms, the concept retained the iconic G-Wagen look, maintaining the distinctive boxy design that has defined this vehicle for many years. The all-electric nature of this design is accentuated by specific features, such as prominent LED lighting clusters, particularly notable at the front. Additionally, expect a range of suspension choices to ensure the SUV's capability in both on-road and off-road conditions.

The reported also stated that the 2021 model's interior showcased a design typical of Mercedes-Benz. Rather than emphasizing its all-electric nature, the display mirrors that of other models in the lineup. The vehicle presents a rejuvenating aesthetic by blending traditional G-Wagen elements with contemporary features. As a result, we expect a standard two-row configuration accommodating up to five people, with a commendable cargo space.
