Porsche maybe venturing into new grounds soon. According to reports, it is considering creating a new luxury electric vehicle idea. This hints a prospective entry into the minivan market. Known for its high-performance sports cars, the introduction of a Porsche luxury electric van would mark a significant shift from Porsche typical lineup.

Luxury Electric Van to Take on Rivals

Peter Varga, Porsche's design boss, has hinted at interesting combination of luxury and practicality of a van. Thus, making the concept of a Porsche luxury electric minivan an interesting prospect.

As reported in Inside EVs Global, although Porsche has never officially produced a minivan, the Vision Renndienst concept from 2020 showcased the brand's capability to merge its prestigious design with the functionality of a people carrier.

This idea can possibly change the premium electric minivan market. Porsche's proposal may blend its iconic elegance with the cutting-edge excitement of electric mobility. As a result, it might be a premium alternative to vehicles like the Volvo EM90.

During the launch of the all-electric Macan in Singapore, Varga engaged in a conversation with TopGear Netherlands, where the possibility of a van akin to the Vision Renndienst concept from 2020 was discussed. Varga expressed optimism about the idea, noting thinks som it's a nice car, it looks good, and it's a possibility The van, as a product and concept for a new car, is now very interesting, especially when paired with luxury he elaborated to TopGear NL.

Reflecting on the design decision for the new electric Macan, Varga pointed out the popularity of luxurious minivans like the Toyota Alphard in Asia. He highlighted the unique experience of riding in the back of a van equipped with large, comfortable seats-a feature that could be intriguing for Porsche to explore in a new product offering.

Varga shared his personal viewpoint on the potential for a Porsche minivan, indicating that this innovative idea could redefine luxury electric minivans by blending Porsche's hallmark elegance with the forward-thinking essence of electric mobility. However, he also cautioned, that's his personal opinion suggesting the final decision might require broader consensus within Porsche.

As per Electrek, while the Renndienst concept showcases several extreme features typical of concept cars, a version destined for production would probably have a significantly altered appearance. Regarding the unique central driving position, Varga mentioned that although it might be suitable for a race car, it wouldn't be practical for daily use.

The design of new electric vehicle (EV) platforms, which positions batteries at the vehicle's base, theoretically simplifies the process of changing the vehicle's body style. At least, that's the expectation.

Volvo EM90

As per Car and Driver, in essence, the EM90 prioritizes its lounge-like, six-seat interior. The rear captain's chairs are particularly luxurious, equipped with fold-out tables, and the overall design exudes a sense of openness and brightness.

Birch wood panels adorn the dashboard, doors, and front seatbacks, boasting intricate backlighting, while the gear shifter is crafted from Orrefors crystal. A15.6-inch entertainment screen hangs from the ceiling, offering support for various third-party applications and incorporating a camera for video calls.

Meanwhile, a high-quality 21-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system handles audio output. The driver benefits from a 15.4-inch infotainment screen and a small display located behind the steering wheel, while rear-seat passengers can control certain functions via screens mounted on the doors.

Volvo emphasizes the EM90's sound isolation, achieved through noise cancellation technology, specialized tires, and a dual-chamber air suspension. The vehicle boasts a panoramic glass roof with a curtain and ambient lighting options inspired by various natural themes.

Despite sharing a platform with the Zeekr 009, Volvo maintains its commitment to safety, employing a robust steel and aluminum structure to safeguard both the battery and passengers. Advanced driver-assistance features are enabled by an array of radar, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras.
