The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reported that Hyundai is initiating a recall. This recall is affecting over 90,000 Genesis cars. The reason for the recall is a critical fire hazard present in specific models. The recall is a response to concerns that water infiltration into the starter solenoid could trigger an electrical short circuit. Thus, potentially leading to engine compartment fires while the vehicle is in operation or parked.

Hyundai: Recall Alert Over Fire Concerns

Engine smoke, the odor of burning or melting parts, and difficulty starting the engine are all indicators of a problem. As reported in The Courier Journal, Federal Safety Officials have identified nine Genesis models affected by this recall, each of which faces possible dangers linked with the aforementioned hazard.

This preventive approach seeks to protect both drivers and onlookers from the potentially disastrous consequences of such breakdowns, emphasizing the necessity of quick response and adherence to safety regulations in the automotive sector.

The recall impacts a total of 90,907 vehicles across models and production years. The models affected are Genesis G70, 2019, Genesis G80, 2017-2019,Genesis G90, 2017-2019 and Hyundai Genesis, 2015-2016

Meanwhile ABC News shared about a letter from the NHTSA. This letter stated there's a possibility of water infiltrating the starter solenoid. It may lead to an electrical malfunction. This issue could potentially cause engine compartment fires both when the vehicle is stationary or in motion.

In official documentation, Hyundai acknowledges a total of twelve "thermal incidents" related to starters occurring in the United States between September 29, 2017, and July 9, 2023. These incidents typically involve occurrences such as smoke emission, component melting, or fires. However, the documents do not explicitly state whether any actual fires transpired.
