Porsche has recalled over 8,000 911 vehicles. This recall affects 8,100 911 sports cars in the US because of a windshield fitment problem.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) stressed how the windshields could fall off in the case of an accident in a written statement outlining the issue. The recall materials also mentioned the possibility of insufficient adhesion in the front and back windows of these Porsche 911 cars.
Windshield Defect Reason for Recall
Currently, the recall affecting the Porsche 911 vehicles is specific to the US market with no disclosed information about the specific trims included in the recall. As per Hindustan Times, the documentation regarding the recall points out that the issue revolves around the bonding adhesive utilized for attaching front windshields and rear windows to the vehicles.
Furthermore, it highlights the possibility of the problem stemming from the conditions under which the adhesive was applied. According to the recall document, certain 911 models lacked entirely residue-free surfaces during the installation process at the manufacturing facility, leading to a diminished adhesive bond.
Last year, the luxury sports car manufacturer operating under the umbrella of Volkswagen AG received information about this concern. Following this, the company conducted a thorough investigation and identified the potential for partial detachment of the glass in areas with weaker bonding.
Should an accident occur, the integrity of the overall connection between the vehicle's metal surface and the windshield would be significantly compromised, potentially resulting in the inadequacy of the bond to secure the windshield. That could lead to the possibility of the glass detaching and causing a serious incident.

On the 13th of March, Porsche is set to begin informing its dealers about this recall, while customer notifications are scheduled to begin on the 26th of April. Owners of the Porsche 911 can reach out to the automaker's customer service and access the dedicated NHTSA recall website to ascertain whether their vehicle is included in this recall or not.
According to a report from Motor1.com, the recall documents indicate 15 warranty claims related to "cloudy surfaces or other optical issues" for the 911s, with no instances of loose glass documented. Porsche has stated that it has no knowledge of any incidents involving detached glass, and there have been no reports of accidents or injuries associated with this problem.
