Ford did it again, it garnered the top spot for something it cannot be proud of - the recall charts. Safety concerns continues with some Ford's model requiring it to issue a recall. According to the National Highway Traffic and Safety administration the brand is the most recalled brand in America for the third straight year.

Ford's Existing Problem

For the third time, Ford retains as the most recalled brand in America. According to the NHTSA, Ford recalled 54 automobiles in 2023. About 5.7 million cars across the country were affected on this.

This is still a lot of recalls, but it's a big drop of 21% compared to the previous year. CarBuzz shared details about Ford earning the top spot as most recalled brand in America.

In 2022, Ford encountered a more substantial obstacle, with 65 recalls impacting over 8.6 million vehicles. This decrease shows that Ford's effort in making its products safer and better. According to a report shared by Motor1.com, a Ford representative stated that the improvement was brought about by the implementation of more stringent regulations.

In the second position, Stellantis secured its spot with 45 recalls impacting 2,689,297 vehicles, primarily centered around electrical system issues. Following closely, BMW ranked third with 29 recalls concerning 332,949 vehicles, with electrical system problems being the predominant issue.

Reason for Recall

The biggest 2023 recall involves 1.3 million Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ vehicles, demonstrating the brand's commitment to fixing concerns quickly. However, these numbers, while substantial, are overshadowed by a recent massive Autopilot software recall that affected nearly every vehicle of a popular car brand in the country, totaling approximately 2 million units.

In terms of vehicles affected, Ford had nearly twice as many as Kia, with 3 million in total. Most of these vehicles were recalled for brake fluid leaks, which might start fires.

Ford is the most recalled brand in America, while Tesla had the highest single recall in 2023, linked to its Autopilot driver-assist technology.

This recall occurred in early December, impacted a staggering 2,031,220 vehicles. This figure is quite close to encompassing every Tesla vehicle manufactured for the US market, but it is expected to have a relatively low financial impact on the automaker.

Ford's Actions: Improvement

Maria Buczkowski, a spokesperson for Ford, clarified that Ford's focus is on enhancing vehicle quality to provide customers with an exceptional experience. Voluntary recalls are part of their commitment to safeguard customers from encountering any issues. As reported in MotorBiscuit,

Ford has been dedicated to elevating quality through increased testing, simplifying processes, and maintaining strict discipline in their procedures. In certain cases, these improvements have led to identifying and addressing issues before vehicles reach customers.

For instance, when a potential problem with battery fires in the Ford F-150 Lightning was detected, Ford promptly issued a stop-sale order until the issue was resolved.

Consequently, this ensured the safety of customers, and Ford avoided the need for a recall. We will continue monitoring these patterns throughout 2024, as changes may occur with the introduction of new models.
